Sustainability is a journey and it takes long time and effort to get there. For over 70 years pedag® has been the global leader in making sustainable insoles and shoe care products from natural eco friendly materials. We aspire to be the one of the most eco friendly insoles and shoe care company. Sustainability adds cost and time to production however our commitment remains strong.We are not perfect.

Here is what we do.

Natural Eco-Friendly Materials

We use high quality, durable natural raw materials in many of our products – for a natural foot health and for the environment. pedag® prefers the use of natural materials from renewable resources and sustainable management philosophy today to ensure a cleaner environment for the future.

Reduced impact by pedag® packaging

We working towards making pedag® insole packaging free of plastic and to use renewable materials.

Transition to Bamboo Terry

Bamboo is an abundant organic natural resource, and unlike cotton, does not need to be grown in fields and take resources from agriculture or forestry. Bamboo is an excellent fast growing carbon capturer. Terry cloth made from bamboo fibers is more moisture wicking than cotton and naturally anti-bacterial. Bamboo durability is higher than cotton and it is bio degradable. We are in the process of switching our cotton products to bamboo to be even more sustainable.

Vegetable Tanning

Our leathers are vegetable tanned. Toxic chemical tanning is cheaper and faster, but we do not compromise on safety of our customers and workers. Vegetable tanning is environmentally friendly and safe for your skin that touches our insoles.

Non-Toxic Water Based Adhesives

Using harsh toxic chemical glues in manufacturing is regrettably common. That is why many leading insoles brands have strong out-of-the-box chemical smell. Imagine workers inhaling such toxins every day for entire shift or impact on your skin. At pedag® we only use safe water based adhesives for safety of our workers and customers. It takes more time to set and cure, up to two days, and costs more to use water based adhesives.

Eco-Friendly Shoe Care

Our shoe care has natural raw materials like lanolin, carnauba and bee's waxes. These materials are environmentally friendly and have well known shoe care benefits. Sustainability and environmental protection are key issues for pedag®. With that in mind, we developed eco-friendly shoe care line: waterproofer, deodorant, cleaner and conditioner and give priority to water-based.

Conversion to Green Electricity

We are running our electric vehicles powered by our own solar panels on the roof of our production facility in Germany. These solar panels produce more power than factory needs, so that we can give back green electricity to our community.

Responsible Sourcing and Supply Chain

For us it is important that materials come from ethical and sustainable sources. We are careful about our suppliers. We partner only with suppliers who treat their workers right and care about environment and animal welfare.
